Living in America, the question “So what do you do?” is frequent. Growing up as a first generation American in a Swedish household it is quite a strange question to get from someone you just met, but I digress! I run, spend time outdoors, own a small business, and I am an online running coach. After the response, I can see the wheels turning…people trying to figure me out. Don’t worry, I have just as hard of a time figuring out corporate lingo LOL.
Before peeling back the curtain on a day in the life, the three top questions I get about my job are:
- Do you run all day?
I have about the same amount of time to train as many other adults with a full-time job. I average 10 – 12 hours of training / week with my long runs being on the weekend.
- You get to think about running all day – is that so much fun?
Yes, definitely! However, because I own my business there are also a lot of non-running related, not as fun tasks.
- Do you wear running clothes all of the time?
Yes, indeed I do! And occasionally pajamas…
In January and February, we have a lot of new athletes inquiring and joining Team Performance Project. There is also annual planning and goal setting with the current team members. Finally, we emphasize professional development this time of year before the flurry of the spring race season arrives.

4:15am: Wake up. Drink coffee + water.
4:55am: Head to the gym for a 1-hour weightlifting session
5:00 – 6:00am: Heavy lifting session
6:30 – 7:30am: Breakfast, shower, family stuff, play fetch with my dog in the backyard
7:30 – 8:00am: Drink tea. Plan the work day using the time-blocking method.
8:00 – 8:30am: Respond to emails, messages from athletes.
8:30 – 9:15am: Athlete check-in call. I love my monthly calls with athletes!
9:15 – 9:45am: Create social media post using Canva Pro. Create video to highlight story behind the post. Upload to Instagram.
9:45 – 10:00am: Send out call requests to current athletes for a monthly check-in call. Set up a 30-min consultation with a potential new athlete.
10:00 – 10:15am: Let the dog out. Bathroom. Snack.
10:15 – 11:15am: Create team monthly educational worksheet using Canva Pro. We call this the Performance Club. Each month we go over a topic related to sports performance. This month is about confronting self-limiting beliefs. Athlete education is a cornerstone of being part of Team Performance Project!
11:15 – 12:00pm: lunch and exercise the dog (walk around the block or a second round of fetch). It was horrible weather with high winds and rain so we opted for brain games today.
12:00 – 3:00pm: Three modules from the UESCA Endurance Sports Nutrition Certification Course. Blocking big time chunks for this early in the year to provide benefit to the athletes on the team as early as possible, as well as holding myself accountable to finishing them!
3:00 – 4:00pm: TrainingPeaks workout review. Respond to athlete messages. Adjust workouts if needed.
4:00 – 4:30pm: Any left over stuff that fell to the wayside throughout the day.
4:30 – 6:30pm: Errands, Family stuff, exercise dog, house stuff.
6:30 – 7:30pm: Make and eat dinner
8:00 – 9:00pm: Watch TV
9:00pm: Bedtime. In winter I tend to go to bed earlier with the darkness. In summer, it is later as we maximize outdoor play time!
I need your scheduling discipline! 😂 thanks for sharing!
I definitely have unproductive days! this was one of the good ones.
